Arrested Indian Mujahideen terrorist had found love in Nepal

Ariz Khan aka Junaid was arrested from the India-Nepal border after the special cell got a tip-off, said DCP Pramod Kumar Kushwaha of Delhi Police while speaking to the media.

Kushwala said that Junaid is an expert in manufacturing bombs, conspirator of plans and also an executioner.

The police said that, he was present at Batla House with four others, but had managed to evade the police during the encounter on September 19, 2008 in Delhi's Jamia Nagar.

He had been a wanted terrorist since 2008, when he had absconded after an encounter at the Batla House encounter had left two dead, and the other two fleeing the authorities.

After escaping from the Batla House encounter, he roamed around seeking shelter in Uttar Pradesh, Rajashtan and Maharashtra and most of his time was spent in buses and trains, the special cell officer said. Qureshi was arrested last month by Delhi Police.

A native of Uttar Pradesh's Azamgarh, Khan carried a bounty of '15 lakh on his head by the police.

During the Batla House operation, encounter specialist Mohan Chand Sharma was killed. He was also allegedly involved in five bomb blast cases including the ones in Jaipur, Ahmedabad, and Delhi.

Kushwaha said that Khan and Tauqeer returned to the subcontinent in 2017 in order to revive the SIMI (Student Islamic Movement of India).

In November 2007, three Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorists were thrashed at the Lucknow sessions courts.

Along with Tauqueer, he started teaching at a school there.

From 2009 till 2014, Khan stayed in Nepal and it was here that he came in touch with Riyaz Bhatkal who asked him to go to Saudi Arabia. "For a cover, he worked as a labourer and also met with many sympathizers there", Kushwah said. He was scheduled to meet a contact in UP when he was caught, added the officer.
