Allen Robinson Won't be Tagged

For weeks, one of the most popular topics of discussion for the Jacksonville Jaguars has been whether the team would end up using the franchise tag on the wideout for the 2018 season, which obviously would have been expensive at a little over $16 million.

However, it seems the Jaguars won't be applying the franchise tag to the 24-year-old wide receiver and will try to get a deal done before the legal tampering period opens on March 12, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

The San Francisco 49ers are expected to target Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Allen Robinson when he becomes a free agent on March 14, according to multiple sources including our own Al Sacco. The timing of his ACL tear could work to his advantage, as much as such an injury could be ideal, with the expectation he'll be able to participate in training camp and Week 1 being precisely one year after his injury. Nonetheless, should the Jaguars bring Robinson back, recently extended quarterback Blake Bortles would have a lethal arsenal of receivers to throw to, not to mention a budding star of a running back in Leonard Fournette.

Robinson would have been tied with Miami's Jarvis Landry, whom the Dolphins franchised last Month, for the highest base salary among receivers in the National Football League in 2018.

Allen Robinson still has superstar potential. Robinson, a 2014 second-round pick, will be 25 this season.

Robinson, who missed most of last season with a knee injury, was reportedly informed on Tuesday that he would not be tagged. He is the one receiver on the roster for which defenses had to account.

If they don't, however, the Colts should pursue him hard in order to add him to an offense that already includes Andrew Luck and T.Y. Hilton.

Robinson might not be an elite receiver - yet - but the Jaguars would be foolish to let him go.
