
The affected units had date codes from September 10, 2016, through October 13, 2017, and included the models PI9010 - which is DC or battery-powered - and PI2010, which is AC or hardwired. This puts consumers at risk of not being alerted to a fire, according to the warning.
Kidde is recalling dual-sensor (photoelectric and ionization) smoke alarms, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).
The recall involves 452,000 detectors in the United States and another 40,000 in Canada.
The cap can compromise the alarm's ability to detect smoke, posing a risk that people may not be alerted to a fire in their home.

"KIDDE" will be on the front center of the unit and the model number and date code are printed on the back. If the yellow cap is there, the consumer should contact Kidde for a free replacement.
