Man who escaped ICE custody at JFK has violent history

The Port Authority Police say that it happened Tuesday night at Terminal 4 while the detainee was supposed to be making a connecting flight.

A manhunt is reportedly underway for an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detainee who escaped custody at John F. Kennedy Airport in New York City, according to multiple reports. The circumstances surrounding the detainee's escape were not immediately clear.

Officials say they caught the man on surveillance video climbing into a taxi.

The man allegedly escaped from the agents at Gate B23, in Terminal 4, around 8:30pm on Tuesday. The agents had taken off his handcuffs when he was brought through screening, and he was about to be then escorted onto a plane when he ran away.

Port Authority police officers were notified of his escape at about 9:15 p.m., an agency police spokesman said.

Officials said security cameras captured him getting into the taxi, but he has not been spotted since.

The Daily News reports, citing law enforcement sources, that the man is considered to be a "violent deportee".

The man has been described as being 6 feet, 3 inches tall, 190 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black or purple shirt, jeans and sneakers.
