Golfer dislocates ankle after hole-in-one, pops it back in

The outside of his left ankle had twisted and almost touched the ground, rolling over his foot.

Reports in America suggest a Thursday morning MRI scan showed the Masters rookie had sustained a high-ankle sprain during the incident.

Finau continued his round, with the injury not looking to be as severe as it looked. For now, Finau is scheduled to tee off his opening round of the Masters on Thursday at 12:43 p.m. Eastern. His status depends on how the ankle looks in the hours leading up to Round 1.

Describing Wednesday as a "crazy day", Finau tweeted his thanks that night to well-wishers for their concern.

It was just a year ago that Dustin Johnson fell down stairs the day before the Masters and was forced to withdraw with a back injury. Finau would also add a bonus 35-footer for birdie at the par-4 ninth. Finau ranks 11th in strokes gained: tee-to-green, 17th in strokes gained: approach-the-green and 22nd in strokes gained: total.

The No. 34 player in the World Golf Rankings withdrew from the event.

Most golfers would make the trade in a heartbeat. It was a very special day, one I'll never forget'.

Tony Finau is a rising star in golf, and he's playing his first Masters this week.
