Youth beheaded in Kashmir

A day after a few suspected Lashkar-e-Taiba militants abducted two civilians from Jammu and Kashmir's Bandipora district, the beheaded body of one of the victims was recovered from Hajin Friday, April 6. On Wednesday night, Mr. Bhat was abducted by LeT militants, who left his father injured with firearm and knife injuries.

In an emailed statement, LeT spokesman Dr Abdullah Ghaznawi said outfit's chief Mahmood Shah has strongly condemned the brutal killing of youth Manzoor Ahmed and attacks on household women in Hajin in north Kashmir's Bandipora district.

Earlier, this week militants of LeT kidnapped another person and later shot him dead in Hajin area.

Mehbooba Mufti said: "The brutal killing of young Manzoor Ahmad is highly condemnable but should also serve as a reminder of where society is headed".

Last year, a similar case of slitting of throat by the militants surfaced in Hajin. "The inhuman way in which the youth was done to death is against the social ethos and cultural value system of the State", said Ms. Mufti.

It may be recalled that earlier this week, terrorists had abducted and killed another youth in the same area. "I'm not surprised", he said.

Police said before abducting father-son duo, terrorists thrashed the family members black-and-blue without caring about the dignity of inmates. The security forces also arrested a foreign militant in Kupwara.

It is a clear indication that LeT terrorists were trying to reactivate their bases and hideouts in the area and wanted to send across a tough signal to local residents against sharing information with the security forces to expose their locations.
