US "Will Respond" To Syria Attack Regardless Of UN Action: Nikki Haley

US

Pressed Monday on whether those plans still stand, Trump simply told reporters: "We're gonna make a decision on all of that, in particular Syria, we'll be making that decision very quickly, probably by the end of today".

That came after President Barack Obama said in August 2012 that there was a "red line" for the U.S.in Syria that Assad would cross by using chemical weapons - something Coffman referred to in his tweet. At least 49 people are reported to have been killed in the attack on April 7.

President Trump had said Sunday that there would be a "big price to pay" for the attack that killed dozens of people in Douma outside Damascus, according to local medical personnel. "And if he does it's going to be very tough, very tough".

"Everybody's going to pay a price, he will, everybody will", Trump told reporters. "He will. Everybody will". We are meeting with our military and everybody else.

The meeting's attendees included Vice President Mike Pence, Defense Secretary Jim Mattis and the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Joseph Dunford.

Despite the fact that both Israel and the USA have silently watched the butchering of millions of people in Syria, their aggression against the attacks in East Ghouta reveals another reason for disturbance. A Navy destroyer, the USS Donald Cook, was underway in the eastern Mediterranean after completing a port call in Cyprus. "The great evil of chemical weapons use that once unified the world in opposition, is on the verge of becoming the new normal".

He said the "hawkish rhetoric" in the Council and threats to use force had gone beyond what had prevailed during the Cold War. "When, I will not say because I don't like talking about timing". "It was an atrocious attack", he said.

"I urge the Security Council, in accordance with its own mandate, to maintain worldwide peace and security and uphold global law to, for God's sake, ensure a mechanism is found to investigate this allegation and attribute responsibilities". It said the two leaders strongly condemned chemical attacks in Syria.

"We're on the edge of a unsafe precipice", she said.

Haley also criticized Iran for its role in allegedly enabling the Assad regime, echoing remarks President Donald Trump shared on Twitter earlier in the day on Monday.

The U.N. Security Council held an emergency meeting in the wake of the assault.

"It depends on how serious they are", said Hassan Hassan, a senior fellow at the Tahrir Institute for Middle East Policy. If Trump decides to proceed quickly, the most likely partner would be France rather than Britain, because of concerns about obtaining permission from Parliament, said the official, who wasn't authorized to discuss the planning publicly and requested anonymity.

A spokesperson for the UK Foreign Office said Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson spoke to Acting US Secretary of State John Sullivan about the attack.

"From what we hear now, I am afraid they are looking for a military option, which is very, very unsafe", he said after the United Nations meeting, where he said Russian Federation had investigated the scene in Douma and found no evidence that chemical weapons were used.

And any new action raises the risk of open conflict with Russian Federation which, like Iran, has deployed forces to defend Assad's regime.

He said "nothing was off the table" in responding to the attack, suggesting that a new round of airstrikes could could be carried out as early as Tuesday.

"Our military specialists have visited this place. and they did not find any trace of chlorine or any other chemical substance used against civilians", he said.

After a similar attack killed scores of people in the village of Khan Sheikhoun in northwestern Syria a year ago, Mr. Trump ordered missile strikes on the Syrian air base where the attacks had originated.
