Battlefield V Battle Royale Mode in the Works

Battlefield V Battle Royale Mode in the Works

The question is, whether this trend represents a seismic shift in the kinds of games people want to play, or if like a number of other half-genres over the past two decades, whether we'll see players return to the mainstays before long.

Battle royale, as popularised by PlayUnknown's Battlegrounds and Fortnite Battle Royale, is a competitive PvP mode in which 100 players drop onto a shrinking arena in a last-man-standing fight to the death, but I'm sure you already knew that.

It appears that another heavy hitter in the FPS world, EA DICE's Battlefield V, is contemplating the addition of a battle royale mode.

Earlier this week, Polygon reported that Activision had made a decision to eschew a traditional single-player campaign for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, to expand on the games multiplayer and Zombies, while possibly entertaining the idea of its own Battle Royale mode.

The battle royale genre is about to get very crowded.

Per the report by Grubb, if the mode is given the go-ahead by EA, it could end up in the game as a free update, but we'll have to wait and see before we jump the gun on any speculation. And today would write about hearing about Battle Royale Battlefield for 2018. The report also states that even if DICE is satisfied with what it has, the mode won't be ready in time for Battlefield V's launch this fall.

In fact, the source claims that EA could still cancel the prototype, keep it for the following Battlefield or next Star Wars: Battlefront sequel, or spin it off into its own game.
