Motorola 'Moto G6' series leaked ahead of launch

The two unlocked units have nearly all of the LTE bands that all the United States carriers support, but won't have T-Mobile's new Band 71 unless T-Mobile requests it, Moto reps said.

Either should be capable of doing most tasks you'd expect, but don't expect this to be as fast as high-end phones you've used in the past.

Overall, the Moto G6 feels pretty zippy, although we did experience some moments of sluggishness when trying out the camera - in particular, there can be a delay after pressing the shutter before a photo's taken, which means it's easy to miss the moment. This is a step up from last year's Snapdragon 430 processor that you'll find in the G5 and cheaper Moto G6 Play.

Both handsets support fast charging, which Moto brands as TurboPower (you have to say that in an Austin Powers voice). The main differences between each device are screen size, battery life, and price. Similarly, the former two devices get 18:9 displays while the latter gets a 16:9 panel. It also includes a 6-inch 720x1440 display with narrow side bezels.

The G6 Play has almost the same type of display as of its big brother, but at 720p resolution instead.

The higher-end Moto G6 and Moto G6 Plus feature a dual-sensor, 12 MP and 5 MP camera setup around the back, while the Moto G6 Play sticks with a single 13 MP snapper.

As far as internals go, there's a Qualcomm Snapdragon 450, a 1.8GHz octa-core processor, and 3GB of RAM, with a rather underwhelming 32GB of storage.

Motorola's phones aren't always the flashiest, but there sure are a lot of them. The phone comes with Android 8.0 Oreo, out of the box. Marketed as "picture flawless in every way", the 5.9-inch G6 Plus pairs a Full HD+ 2:1 "Max Vision" display with dual 12 + 5MP rear-facing cameras for both top-notch content consumption and creation.

Oddly, the lowest-spec Moto G6 Play packs the biggest battery of the three at 4,000mAh, while the G6 and G6 Plus tout 3,000 and 3,200mAh batteries.

The E range targets the lower end of the market, with the 5.7-inch E5 at Euro 149, 6.0-inch E5 Plus at Euro 169 and the 5.2-inch E5 Play for an undisclosed price. Unfortunately, this minimal "improvement" is hampered a bit by its lower 720p resolution.

Of course, something's got to give to keep the price down, but in the case of the Moto G6 I think the compromises that have been made are the right ones. The display has an 18:9 aspect ratio and 75% screen-to-body ratio, covered under Gorilla Glass 3. The highlight of the new Moto E5-series is the taller displays which come with 18:9 aspect ratio and bigger batteries, which are two of the most demanded features in the budget smartphone segment, the same category where both these smartphones will be competing. It ia powered by a Quad-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 chipset. The Max Vision screen also provides "expansive views", but naturally, with lower HD+ resolution.

The E5 Plus has a massive 5000 mAh battery which can be topped up by the included 15W Turbo Charger.

The Moto G6 will be available in one colour at launch, called "Deep Indigo". Both the Moto G and E lines will be available "over the coming months" to several other regions including countries in Asia Pacific, Europe, Latin America and North America.

Motorola has confirmed the G6 Plus won't be coming to the USA, but we know it's launching in the United Kingdom at some point at the start of May.
