Jammu and Kashmir: Police personnel killed in terrorist attack

A policeman died after militants attacked a guard post in the Wadwan area of Budgam district on Friday. According to police spokesperson Manoj Pandita, "Militants attempted to force their entry inside a guard post of a Kashmir Pandit house at Budgam".

Police said the militants held up Ahmad while he was going for Friday prayers to a local mosque and was unarmed.

Ahmad was asked by the terrorists to lead them towards the guard post, the spokesman said, adding however, he raised an alarm and the alert jawans inside the post foiled the weapon snatching bid.

Reports said that a group of gunmen appeared in Budgam's Soibug area and tried to force their entry into a police guard-post.

Martyr SgCt Shamim Ahmad was a native of Check Hanjan Yaripora, District Kulgam and is survived by aged parents, wife, three children Shahid about 21 years old, Muneeb Ahmad about 17 years old and Saqib Ahmad about 10 years old. It was the second attack on a minority picket in the district.

Sources said snatching weapons seemed to be the motive behind the attack.

The youth has been identified as Adil Farooq Mir son of Farooq Mir resident of Galwanpora, Budgam.
