North Korea to finish dismantling nuclear test site 'within two weeks'

During the meeting, Kim promised to dismantle the Punggye-ri underground nuclear test site in northeastern North Korea and transparently show the dismantlement to the world.

According to the KCNA, the dismantling of the Punggye-ri site will involve the collapsing of all tunnels through the use of explosives and the removal of all observation facilities, research buildings and security posts.

Kim had already revealed plans to shut down the test site by the end of May during his summit with South Korean President Moon Jae-in last month. "Thank you, a very smart and gracious gesture", he tweeted.

It added that North Korean media and reporters from South Korea, China, Russia, the USA and United Kingdom will be allowed to attend the dismantlement ceremony.

The ruling WPK said that the country will close its nuclear test ground and suspend missile tests in order to concentrate all the nation's efforts on economic construction, during a plenary session chaired by the country's top leader Kim Jong Un last month. Now he has pledged to destroy them.

South Korea, which has played an important role in arranging the summit between the leaders of the US and the North, said that Kim expressed genuine openness to denuclearization in exchange for eased sanctions and economic benefits to the North's crumbling markets.

But their relationship appears to have thawed, and in the early hours of Thursday morning, Mr Trump welcomed home three Americans released by Pyongyang. From there, journalists will board a charter train to the test site.

Pompeo and other USA officials have repeatedly said they are seeking North Korea's permanent verifiable denuclearization, while North Korean officials have said that they have already achieved their nuclear objectives. -North Korea summit in Singapore. South Korea had no immediate response to the statement.

North Korea has invited the outside world to witness the dismantling of its nuclear facilities before.

North Korea continues to follow through with its efforts towards peace.

But since the Pyeongchang Games, Pyongyang and Washington have agreed to the unprecedented Singapore meeting, and Kim has twice visited China to meet President Xi Jinping, after not paying respects in the six years since he inherited power from his father.

However, White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said that she did not believe that Moon would be a part of the historic Trump-Kim summit the following month.
