Kelly sued by ex-girlfriend over alleged abuse

The woman, now confirmed as Rodgers, has filed a complaint with Dallas police to say that Kelly deliberately infected her with herpes which is an offence that can result in an assault charge.

She claims they met when she was 19 after a gig in San Antonio last March, and that about two months after that Kelly sexually assaulted her in a hotel room.

She remained in a relationship with Kelly for about a year, during which he "routinely engaged in intimidation, mental, verbal and sexual abuse, during and after sexual contact".

A woman has filed a lawsuit in NY against R. Kelly, accusing the singer of sexual battery, knowingly infecting her with herpes and locking her in rooms for punishment.

Kelly, who has faced multiple accusations of holding women hostage and grooming them for sex, spent two months calling, texting and FaceTiming with Rodgers before flying her to NY and putting her up in a hotel to see his concert.

"CBS This Morning" reached out to R. Kelly's representatives and they said they have no comment on Rodgers' allegations or the new lawsuit.

On May 10, streaming service Spotify said it had removed the singer's music from its editorial playlists. In a new interview with CBS News, Rodgers detailed her almost yearlong relationship with the singer, including one incident where she said she "submitted" to sex with him after he demanded it. Rodgers' lawsuit dryly refers to the allegations as a "run-of-the-mill R. Kelly sexual abuse" case that fits a specific pattern.

Faith Evans, 20, is claiming that the 51-year-old held her against her will and that he psychologically, verbally and sexually abused her. "You feel like, 'I'm chilling with somebody I went to high school with'".

For nearly twenty years, rumors of Kelly's proclivity for young women have haunted him, and he was even married to singer Aaliyah when she was 15 years old. Some of them had been with him for 15 years.

During their alleged relationship, Rodgers claims Kelly advised her to call him "daddy" and would lock her in a van for hours at a time.

"I was devastated", she said.

Kelly, who has won multiple Grammys, sold close to 30 million albums and has written hits for Michael Jackson, Céline Dion, Aaliyah and more, has crafted pop anthems and love songs, but he is defined by sexually explicit songs such as Feelin' on Yo Booty, Your Body's Calling Me, Sex Me and even more explicit fare.

Due to the other allegations surfacing about R. Kelly, some companies have taken direct action.

Amid the controversy to #muterkelly, in late April promoters cancelled a concert in Chicago, his hometown.
