Drug offender released after Kim Kardashian West's plea to Donald Trump

Last week, Kim Kardashian paid a visit to the White House where she met with President Donald Trump in a meeting about prison reform & sentencing, which Trump said "went great".

Kardashian West got involved in Johnson's case after she was profiled in a viral Facebook video past year.

The White House said in a statement that Trump had commuted Johnson's sentence and that she "has accepted responsibility for her past behavior" and been a "model prisoner". "I'd like to tell President Trump that I am so grateful for everything that you've done for me and my family", she said.

"She's actually achieved nothing", he said on The Project on Thursday night.

While in prison, where she became a grandmother and great-grandmother, Johnson enrolled in educational and vocational programmes, volunteered to help sick and dying prisoners and helped coordinate the prison's Special Olympics.

Kim Kardashian and Alice are planning to meet face-to-face in the coming days.

President Barack Obama pardoned 231 individuals, many who had similar drug-related charges to those of Johnson's, in December 2016.

"I'd like to say, President Trump, thank you for having mercy upon me".

She sat down for an interview at her lawyer's office in Downtown Memphis and says she's still pinching herself.

Johnson is expected to be released from prison soon.

Trump commuted Johnson's life sentence on Wednesday, following Kardashian's high-profile campaign. One week after Kardashian personally lobbied on her behalf at the White House, her request was granted. Nevertheless, she was convicted of conspiracy to sell cocaine and money laundering, which led to a sentence of life plus 25 years in federal prison - despite it being her first offense.

Jack Johnson received a rare posthumous pardon last month, after another actor - Sylvester Stallone of Rocky fame - championed his case.

Trump is looking at cases where he can bring "relief to folks who he feels have been 'treated unfairly, ' a term the president uses frequently to describe many different situations", top Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway said Wednesday.

Bickmore also took issue with Kardashian being involved, saying it showed an "attachment to celebrity".
