Djokovic into Wimbledon semi-final, blasts unnecessary warnings

Three-time champion Djokovic was the first man through to the semi-finals, reaching the last four of a major in more than two years by seeing off Japan's Kei Nishikori 6-3 3-6 6-2 6-2 on Centre Court. The three-time champion made minor errors in the first set but managed to convert three break points on his way to a comfortable victory.

Nishikori is also on his way back up after injury, and the outcome could easily have been different had the Japanese won the game where he had Djokovic at 0-40 early in the third set.

Djokovic, victor of three singles titles at the All England Club, will next meet Japan's 24th seed Kei Nishikori.

"I just asked him whether he thought honestly that I damaged the court with the racket that I throw".

Kei Nishikori became the first Japanese man in 23 years to reach the Wimbledon quarter-finals and then predicted a "war" with Novak Djokovic to get to the last four. But he grew frustrated after failing to capitalize on three straight break points in the third game of the second set and was given a code violation after slamming his racket into the ground.

"I had moments where I was great, I felt like I was reading his serve, other moments where I don't know where the hell I was moving to". I really do. I think with the performances I've had, I deserve to be in the semi-finals. "In the midst of emotions in a tough match, it happens".

The loss marks the end of world No. 28 Nishikori's most successful ever Wimbledon appearance, having reached the final eight for the first time in his career.

"It motivates me to do extremely well here because I don't want to sit here and explain my loss. Honestly, it's not easy playing Novak", Nishikori said. (Ramos) said he didn't see it. "I didn't harm the grass", he said.

The former world number one has struggled for both form and fitness during the past two seasons, with an elbow injury hindering the Serbian, while he was stunned by Marco Cecchinato at the French Open this year.

"That was I think the biggest chance I had".

Anderson added that Federer, who won his first Wimbledon title in 2003, is the flawless role model for the sport - and for those players in the chasing pack.

After the match, Djokovic admitted his frustration at Ramos's decision, while pointing out that Nishikori did exactly the same thing in the fourth set.

But Djokovic appears to be building towards somewhere near his best again and, while made to work hard by Nishikori, he was good value for a 6-3 3-6 6-2 6-2 triumph.

"Down two sets to love I just tried my best to keep fighting and scraped through the third and fourth set", Anderson said after the match, per Wimbledon's website.
