Donald Trump invites Vladimir Putin to USA despite uproar after Helsinki meeting

On Tuesday Trump said he had misspoken and that he had complete faith in USA intelligence agencies and accepted their conclusions.

Media figures and lawmakers from both sides of the aisle have lobbed criticism toward the USA president for holding a joint press conference with Putin in Helsinki, during which Trump expressed doubt over the claims of U.S. intelligence agencies that Russian Federation meddled in the 2016 election.

Coats, whose office briefs Trump nearly daily on the most classified information on security threats to the United States, made clear that he did not agree with the president's decision to meet with Putin one-on-one, with only translators by their sides.

After returning to Washington the next day, Trump walked back his comments and said he misspoke after a wave of Republican lawmakers voiced their concern.

"That's not my role". He said the summit notably made progress on U.S.

"I feel really good the language we have could pass". After the meeting, the USA president had declared that he believed Putin's claims that Russian Federation had not interfered in the United States presidential election.

On Thursday, FBI Director Christopher Wray said the United States intelligence community stands by its view that Russian Federation meddled in the USA election.

White House officials didn't immediately respond to a request for comment. NBC's Andrea Mitchell, who was moderating the event, shared the development.

That appeared to be news to Coats.

"Say that again", Coats said, cupping his hand over his ear.

"OK", he continued, pausing for a deep breath. "We just have to find a way to get it going", said Rubio, who predicted the measure could get a veto-proof 85 votes in the Senate.

Coats, who has criticized Russian Federation for years, has had to clash loudly with Trump's pro-Kremlin remarks, leaving the soft-spoken spy chief in a tight spot. Other officials familiar with the White House's scheduling say the White House has been so busy mitigating the backlash that the debriefings that would have normally taken place had yet to be conducted, The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday. The referendum would be modeled on the one held in Crimea in 2014, which Russian Federation claims ratified its annexation of Crimea as justified and supported by the residents. He has continued to raise the alarm on Russian Federation since his appointment by Trump as intelligence chief in March 2017.

The phrase "real enemy of the people" was used as an "operative threat to murder the opposition during the French Revolution", Cuomo said. "They are the ones who are trying to wreak havoc over our election process". The Trump administration also ordered the closure of several Russian-owned properties in the U.S., including a consulate in San Francisco and diplomatic annexes in NY and Washington. He said when he has frustrating days, he reminds himself about why he agreed to accept the job and what he hoped to accomplish. "In the United States, in Russian Federation, or anywhere else", he said in a statement.

Trump has had a tense relationship with USA intelligence agencies since before he was elected - largely due to their conclusion that Putin ordered "an influence campaign" in 2016 aimed at helping the Trump campaign and harming his Democratic opponent, Hillary Clinton.

Pompeo in an interview with EWTN conceded that there's been a lot of heat and very little light following that Trump-Putin press conference. Russian officials worry that domestic turmoil in the USA will hamper potential future cooperation on Syria or arms control discussed at the summit.

Coats noted that Pompeo has projected a longer time frame.

"We need a new positive agenda, aimed at working together and finding common ground", he said.

The Crimean referendum was not monitored by global observers, and Russian Federation has a history of demanding respect for votes regarded as sketchy or downright illegal by the United States and Europe.

Mr Putin said Russian Federation wanted to question United States nationals the Kremlin accuses of "illegal actions". Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), charging it was an affront to diplomatic efforts and a sign that "Trump derangement syndrome has official come to the Senate".

On China, Coats said that the US has to decide if China is a "true adversary or a legitimate competitor". "I don't think he was prepared as well as he should have been".
