Syria state media: rebels reportedly agree surrender deal in al-Quneitra

Since early Sunday, government forces turned their missiles toward a stretch of land controlled by the armed opposition in northern Daraa and the countryside of adjacent Quneitra.

The bombardment is part of the government's military offensive - which it began on June 19 - on the remaining opposition pockets in the southwestern region, which includes the Deraa and Quneitra provinces straddling the border with Jordan and the frontier with the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.

According to the agreement, rebel forces agreed to hand over "military hardware" followed by the rest of their weapons once ISIS is removed from southern Syria.

Rebels in the southern Syrian city of Nawa in Deraa province surrendered to the Syrian government on Wednesday after intensive air strikes as the army pressed forward with a Russia-backed offensive in the area.

A member of the rebel delegation to the talks said that a preliminary ceasefire agreement on Quneitra had been reached with Moscow but said it was unclear when it would be implemented.

Israel has also said it would demand strict adherence to the 1974 disengagement deal with the Syrian army on the Golan, threatening a "harsh response" to any attempt by Syrian forces to deploy in that zone.

Speakers at the sit-in said that Gaza's hospitals suffer from shortages in medicines, lab equipment and testing materials due to the Palestinian Authority (PA) sanctions and Israel's siege of the strip.

The U.N. and human rights organizations have condemned such evacuations as forced displacement.

Israel seized 1,200 square kilometres (460 square miles) of the Golan from Syria in 1967 and later annexed it, in a move never recognised internationally.

Netanyahu paid tribute to Trump in a statement following the summit by commending the "abiding commitment of the U.S. and President Donald Trump to the security of Israel, as expressed at the meeting [in Helsinki]". Deraa city was the scene of the first major peaceful protests against Assad's authoritarian rule in March 2011 which spiralled into a war now estimated to have killed half a million people.

However, before they can secure the Al-Quneitra Governorate's western axis, the Syrian army will have to capture the key town of Nabe' Al-Sakher, which is located just west of Tal Al-Harrah.

After regime forces launched a ferocious offensive on June 19, Russian Federation pressured rebels to hand over eastern parts of the province in early July, and the provincial capital last week.

A string of towns - Al-Hara, Samlin, and Zimrin - had agreed to fall back into regime control, while troops overran Al-Tiha militarily.

A deal between Russian Federation and rebel ally Turkey saw thousands of residents bussed out early Thursday morning to government territory in adjacent Aleppo province.

IDF soldiers providing emergency medical care to young Syrians injured in attacks by the Assad regime on rebel-held towns near Deraa.

The departure was emotional and bittersweet, said Shilan Shuweish, a resident of Fuaa bussed out with her husband and two children. An HTS ambush then left 12 regime forces dead, Abdel Rahman said.
