'I did not know': Trump denies knowledge of 2016 meeting with Russians

His attorney Lanny Davis declined to comment on the report, as did spokeswomen for Mueller and the USA attorney in Manhattan.

CNN cited anonymous sources saying Cohen was willing to share that information with special counsel Robert Mueller, who is investigating possible collusion between Trump's campaign and Russian Federation.

Trump seemed to be referring to an ongoing FBI investigation into Cohen's businesses, which include real estate holdings and an array of taxi companies.

"I have no concerns that Michael Cohen is going to do anything but tell the truth, and if he does, as I said, there's no suggestion that anything happened", Giuliani said at the time.

In May, Giuliani told ABC News' This Week that he wasn't concerned about Cohen cooperating with investigators, including special counsel Robert Mueller, because he is "an honest, honorable lawyer".

But Trump on Friday claimed that Cohen is lying to get himself out of unrelated legal problems. You would hope he wouldn't, but it is not breaking the law - lying to the media.

President Trump, for his part, flat-out contradicted the Cohen claim on Twitter by Friday morning and Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani has called Michael Cohen "a source that is not credible".

However, Fox also reports that sources say Cohen has a "treasure trove" of information on the president.

Cohen says he was one of several people with Trump when Trump Jr. informed him of the offer, and Trump said he should go ahead with the meeting.

That's no doubt a reference to the financial and legal troubles Cohen faces in relation to his time as a New York City taxi mogul. "I would not accept him in a case as a witness, as a prosecutor", he added later.

After news of the meeting broke in July 2017, the Trump team initially offered a misleading explanation of the session. Trump Jr. answered as follows: "No, I did not".

Jared Kushner, who is married to first daughter Ivanka Trump, and then-campaign chairman Paul Manafort, now awaiting trial on federal money-laundering and conspiracy charges, both attended the brief session at Trump Tower.

Trump's primary residence at the time - Trump Tower - had a blocked number, according to separate testimony to the committee from former campaign manager Corey Lewandowski. "You look at the fact that he had a long-standing relationship with the Agalarovs, who helped set up the meeting". "We wouldn't consider it in our best interest to share confidential information with them and they would feel the same way".

On Twitter Friday morning, Trump also lashed out at the Mueller probe and suggested, without evidence, that in fact it was Democrats and not his own campaign that had colluded with Russian Federation to interfere in the 2016 election.

Trump complained that he had returned from a trip Midwest Thursday "only to be greeted with the ridiculous news" that Mueller and his team "cannot find Collusion... so now they are looking at my Tweets (along with 53 million other people)".
